I refuse to start 2009 with the negativity that dominated 2008.
For some time I've pondered what I can do to drive the housing market toward recovery. Yes, that's a large undertaking, but by focusing on the positive events of my real estate day, day by day, I'm going to contribute to the turnaround. The media moguls and movers and shakers in DC can thank me later.(smile)
It's a little past 4:30 PM and I'm calling it a day--a good one. Here's the wrap up on my rose-colored day:
The little condo listing that no ones shows had a showing today! Excuse me while I do a little happy dance... Perhaps it was the price reduction or the reduction of interior "stuff" but a qualified buyer walked through it today. Showing today, offer tomorrow? I'm excited just thinking about how thrilled my seller will be to move forward with her life and buy a small house with a backyard for her two year old daughter. A sale, a purchase, a little nudge for a sleepy economy is within the realm of possibilities.
While intently focused on my office computer screen (Okay, I was blogging), a Young Turk of an agent walked in and inquired about my listings on the Colorado River. He works with one of the top foreclosure agents in Los Angeles and is looking for a place to park some of his cash. That works for me and the economy. His new money is old real estate money and I'll be happy to help him reinvest it.
An appraiser called to ask my opinion on the value of a few Palos Verdes properties. In the course of the conversation he mentioned an address and said it might be coming on the market sometime in the next few months. I know the street and let's just say that listing would put the icing on my 2009 real estate cake.
A past client (developer) called and invited me to lunch tomorrow. Hmmm, wonder what he wants to discuss? Maybe it's the 13 acre parcel on the Colorado River for $7.7M. Make note to self: take list of available lots, tear downs and fixers. I'll keep them discreetly tucked in my tote unless the subject comes up---and I'm sure it will.
You can be sure I'll be wearing my rose-colored real estate glasses when he arrives at my table and where ever else tomorrow takes me.

Good for you. My nick name is Pollyanna too. I want the good stuff. There is a lot more good than bad, just depends on what YOU want to focus on. Stay strong and positive, the heck with the rest of them.
Norma, sounds like your 2009 rocks! Can I borrow those glasses of yours?
I like to help my Clients create viable 5-year business plans and then break that plan down into days, sometimes even hours. If they work the days persistently and consistently, they can create niche markets and niche economies so that the weeks, months, and years fall naturally into place. No need, then, for those rose-colored glasses, just some good sunglasses because, as some singer once said, "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades."
