Don't Sit Too Long It's Bad for Your Health

013_10A (4)

I recently read a terrific article, Huffington Post I think, about the importance of taking mini breaks throughout the work day (and while traveling :) as I'm doing in the photo since sightseeing all day is as exhausting as showing property all day). It seems sitting for hours can shorten your life, stifle your creativity and increase the likelihood of gaining weight.  Not to gloat, but I was right about red wine and chocolate being good for you, and it seems my preference for the up and down, in and out lifestyle of a real estate agent might be good for me as well.

My stints at full-time office work were short and thankfully so.  I'm not good at sitting still hour after hour. Obviously, all the stair climbing we do while previewing property for our clients is good for our heart health. Last Tuesday, while touring new listings, I counted the number of flights climbed (with the help of my iPhone 6) and there's nothing wimpy about twelve flights of stairs. Perhaps this is why real estate agents rarely retire, we are too healthy and fit and do not want to exchange our jack-in-the-box lifestyle (the toy, not the fast food chain) for the sedentary life on the sofa.  It seems popping in and out and up and down is good for your health.

Yeah, stand up, stretch, and walk. It's good for you.

You gotta be ready and fit in this business.

I agree, and glad to find out being able to sit at your desk for hours on end is not a good thing (because I can't do it).

Great information! It is so important to remember to get up and move throughout the day. Thanks for sharing.

Eating lunch at your desk is now frowned upon--and per the article production goes up, not down, for workers who take frequent breaks.

Good afternoon Norma,

I agree production does up up when workers take frequent breaks! Great information!

I try to get up and move around.  I also try to use the stairs.
