RAT BEACH in Palos Verdes Estates is Great for Kids

RAT BEACHLocated in lower Malaga Cove, and at the southern tip of Torrance Beach, RAT Beach is a favorite of young and old, and all the in-between beach-goers in Palos Verdes.  The waves are gentle, the water is shallow, and the sand is ample.  You'll  see surfers of all abilities and lots of splashers.  There are walkers and sandcastle builders.  Picnickers and sun-worshippers dot the landscape.

It is off the beaten path and not visible from the street.  The locals consider it one of many treasures on the Palos Verdes Peninsula still largely undiscovered by the the beach-going masses.

Norma, sounds nice, except for the name. Rat beach? When I saw the title, I had to click and check it out.

I've never seen a rat there!  Some people say the RAT stands for Redondo and Torrance; others say it stands for Right After Torrance.  Most people just call it Rat Beach--adds some flavor I guess.  It is quite scenic and a favorite place of mine.  Thanks for the comment.

I figured it had to stand for something, not for rats! Yuck!  But like I said, the title got my attention.

I'm sure it's beautiful there. :)

Norma,  This looks great.  Especially right now because it's about 35 degrees outside and supposed to snow over the weekend!!!

Thanks for the comment--yes, those beach pics are quite a contract to snow and sleet!  I enjoyed your post on points.

Norma, such a strange name for the beach. How are your parking facilities there? Do they charge for parking? Residents Passes???

Parking is free and ample--there's a public lot and street parking is allowed. If you're ever in the area, check it out--the beach is much better than its name!

Clear, but colder than the Atlantic.  I lived in St. Petersburg, FL and was shocked by how much colder the Pacific Ocean is.  Thanks for the comment.
