Some people wait for things to change, some people spend countless hours attempting to change things, and other decide to change their approach and attitude. Often when they shift their attitude and approach the "problem" appears to change. The issue may still loom large but a fresh approach offers a new beginning.
Perception is powerful.
Weather is a wonderful example, especially in Southern California. We are spoiled by day after day of near perfect weather. A rainstorm or heat wave creates a disturbance in the perfection residents are accustomed to enjoying. Likewise, the real estate market hummed along for years with homes increasing in value each year. It became the expected norm, but change swooped in and upset the apple cart. Those who adjusted their course and trimmed their sails prevailed. Change is not always welcome, but it should always be expected.
"By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination." Christopher Columbus, 1451-1506.
I'm sure Christopher Columbus encountered rough water, but persistence and determination produced the outcome he desired. More than likely he had to adjust his course and ride out a storm or two.
The short sales and foreclosures of today's market are reminders of dreams and goals gone awry, but I'm pleased to say I'm beginning to see clients recover and move forward with renewed hope.

Norma ... Thanks for your post. It's true that lots of people have had to walk away from their dreams during these challenging economy times, and that we must be building for recovery in our lives and helping our clients along the way.
Norma......The past couple of years have indeed caused unwanted change in the lives of many people. In some cases, people have lost their dreams and now must start over. Your post points out the need to adjust the sails and change course to navigate these difficult times. It is wonderful that there are signs of recovery for many of these individuals.
Harrison and Carra - I'm thrilled for the ones who are finding new beginnings; too many are still in the middle of the struggle.
Yes, there are those who had to give up their aspirations and dreams with the fight we keep fighting these days. Yet there are those who remain to battle it up. Hopefully, we all get through it.
Norma, you have a great attitude. It's true that an attitude adjustment and adjusting your goals and tactics for the changing climate can mean the difference between success and failure.
I have just finished a book that touched on your theme of waiting for change or being the change. I am a student of personality types, and my type is typically the "waiter". I would venture to say that most of us who are "waiters", (read: procrastinators) do so because of too much thinking, or some unrealistic idea that conditions will be perfect for us, "later". Thinking through all of the possibilities is as dangerous as continuing to attack multiple times from the same perspective. Changing the attitude is a great start for the new approach! Needing an attitude adjustment is not just for teens!
