Annie Pinsker-Brown of Stage to Sell, the premier West Los Angeles home staging company, wrote a insightful post on getting your house sold in 2011.  She also linked to a Wall Street Journal article about the topic.  As an agent or a seller the articles are filled with helpful tips. 

I've always associated luxury with quality, not necessarily quantity or size.  I think a small house can exude luxury and quality without being palatial in size.  Attention to architectural details and decorative style is another way to drape a home in luxury.  A home filled with art, living plants and music offers a luxurious retreat from the demands of the outside world.

Luxury, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.  My idea of luxury may differ from yours, but most will agree luxury emerges when our surroundings are rich with what we love and thereby add great pleasure to our lives.  Robert Frank takes a look at the life and culture of the wealthy in The Five Species of Luxury Consumers.  It is an interesting read.

The definition of luxury is always evolving.  Has the recent recession changed consumers opinion of what constitutes luxury? Definitely, and happily the definition of luxury is expanding to include the intangibles of peace of mind, time with loved ones and the ability and time to help our co-inhabitants on this earth.

Zen of the Day (Applied to Real Estate)

The clouded mind sees nothing.

Economic foresight is seldom 20/20.  There are always speed bumps and potholes in all life roads.  The best we can hope for is to learn from the past and look at the present with an unclouded mind.  Only then can we make the decisions that will move us into our future with the accumulated knowledge of past experiences, but free of burdensome baggage and fear of what is coming next.

As we shed the old skin of 2010 and prepare to reinvent ourselves, our businesses and our goals in 2011 the history we are about to live is yet unwritten--the days will unfold one at a time and each will leave its mark on your history and the world's.  The challenges will not go away; the foggy feeling of uncertainty must, for the clouded mind sees nothing, and only reacts to current conditions. 

Fog is a beautiful and mysterious weather condition when it envelopes the landscape.  On the other hand, if you are driving through a foggy patch it is difficult to see where you're going, and you must reduce your speed in anticipation of hidden dangers and be prepared to react. Progress is slowed due to existing conditions.

Once the ground clouds lift, clear vision is restored.  The stress and tension of operating a vehicle in foggy weather is gone.  A clouded mind returns similar results.  Progress is stymied, fear contracts plans and many wait to see what will happen.  It happens to sellers, buyers and real estate professional alike.
